Google Maps: Explore the Grand Canyon

On their quest to map the earth Google Maps has gone off road with the release of these panoramic images of the Grand Canyon which allow people to virtually explore this natural wonder by viewing the site with full 360° views. Google’s ever expanding image collection aims to give people wider access to the world around them. With more than 9,500 panoramas of the Grand Canyon available to view on Google Maps covering more than 75 miles of trails and surrounding roads. The Google Maps team used the Android-operated Trekker, a wearable 15-lens camera system, worn as backpacks around the rocky terrain whilst on foot. It’s pretty impressive to see these sites form the comfort of your desk, explore these images yourself at maps.google.com/grandcanyon. Where else would you like Google Maps to let you explore?

KLM: The Must See Social Map

Here’s the latest global social media campaign from KLM, and knowing the success of their past, this one has big things to live up to, and at first glance, it delivers in spades… A socially powered ‘Must See Map’ that aggregates everywhere your friends have been in a certain location, along with comments, tips and recommendations from your network. So what’s new right? Well, not only can you choose your own map area, KLM will send you a high-quality print of the map, including all the social data, so you can get a little old school next time you travel. Slight shame it takes 3 weeks to be delivered, but then again, it’s free! Cool.

Royal London Hospital: Interactive Installation

Here’s a great example of technology put to good use at the Royal London Children’s Hospital, patients now have an interactive playground featuring a giant screen that the children can engage with. The surrounding soft toys are integrated into an interactive game, so that the children can play with both the physical and digital versions. Set in the style of a children’s book the interactive game, Woodland Wiggle, allows kids to paint pictures and play music with their body movements. The creators have designed the game to include the movements that would be the most therapeutic for the children. Artist and creator Chris O’Shea took into account the wide ranging patient-types to include healthy kids to those with special needs. It’s great to see that technology can be used in this way to enhance the therapeutic benefits of play.

Qualcomm Mobile: Best Bus Stop Ever

A pretty cool stunt from Qualcomm, the guys who’s chipsets power a tonne of the world’s best smartphones, to showcase how everyday life is just better with mobile. So they bought out the ad space on a bus stop, replaced it with a message pointing to a mobile site URL, and waited for people to hit the site and press the button… A few streets away lay a host of transportation vehicles, then this happened… and a few days laters 2m views… Kinda fun.

Ray Ban: Ambermatic Lens App Installation

Just about everyone is adding a custom filter to their apps and campaigns these days, so it’s cool to see RayBan’s take on it, and bringing it out of just the digital world and into the physical, to showcase their retro Ambermatic Lens which is making a comeback. Ray Ban, created an app that let you shoot photos, send them straight to their flagship store where a killer installation was setup, featuring a TV screen that would showcase your photo, and a camera that would shoot through an actual Ambermatic Lens, capture the image, and then post it back to you to share. And sure, while it might seem overkill for a process like this, it’s a pretty cool way to get people talking and interactive with the Ambermatic Lens. What do you guys think?

R/C Cars Race Through City Made Entirely Of Cardboard

Inspired by Freddie Wong's R/C police chase shot like a real movie, this is another impressive little R/C car chase by Youtuber FinalCutKing through a cardboard city made "entirely out of cardboard, hot glue, and spray paint." Impressive, but I made a girlfriend once out of the exact same things. Well, technically she was a love doll. One whose arms and legs fell off the one time we decided to shower together. For the record, it was her idea in the first place. (VIA http://www.geekologie.com )
