The video Russian leaders don't want you to see #LoveAlwaysWins

Russia is in the midst of a violent crackdown against lesbian, gay, bi and trans people - fueled by laws that make it a crime to be open about who you are and who you love. The countdown is on for Russia’s winter Olympics and, very soon, all eyes will be on them. The Olympic games are our best chance to end to Russia's outrageous anti-gay laws – but to do it, it’s going to take lots more of us to hear about what’s happening in Russia. Watch this beautiful 2-minute video, and please share it with your family and friends. You can also sign the petition here: www.allout.org/en/actions/russia-attacks

Laser Cut in 800 Blocks of Wood Video - The New America

"The New America" is a short animation in which every frame was created by laser engraving its unique artwork onto a solid block of maple. Once complete, the entire sequence of +800 frames was then photographed and assembled into this motion piece. This piece was funded by really kind friends and supporters via Kickstarter. After many unforeseen issues and delays, the entire process took about two years. As seen in the video, each frame is unique. Aside from the design of each frame itself being distinct, small variances that naturally occur in the laser engraving process as well as the different wood grain of each frame naturally created subtle shifts of the position of the artwork. An effect that I was particularly interested in and that could naturally be achieved in digital assembly, but that I was much more excited about re-creating with real objects. The music was carefully crafted by my amazing friends at World Gang - music.world-gang.com The abstract storyline showcased in this piece is a concoction of a variety of ideas and can perhaps be described as a union between concepts and experiments born during the Situationist movement and real life events experienced during the last few years in American society. Particularly the duality between the economic downturn and the shift in values and beliefs of many citizens. If you decide to purchase one of these frames, please note that I will randomly select one of them.

Volvo Trucks - The Hamster Stunt

This is a video from Volvo demonstrating their new Dynamic Driving system. How? The old fashioned way -- having a hamster in a little cage (possibly part of a table fan) screwed to the steering wheel of a 16.5-ton dump truck steer the thing up a cliffside road by guiding him with a carrot. Impressive, but it would have been even more impressive if you let hamsters work your new dynamic gas and braking systems too. Also, why is the video called 'Live Test 2'? Where's the footage from 'Live Test 1', and how much did you have to compensate the family of the hamster driver from that truck?

Infographic: How To Get Your Content Shared

If you’ve ever wondered exactly how sites like Mashable get some much social traction, this might just help give you a little insight into it, and to be honest, it’s not an art, it’s a science, knowing post by post exactly what gets the most sharability per post… Then doing more of that! Hence, my pet hate… The ’10 things you need to…’ type of list post! From this Infographic, you’ll see that your optimal time to post new content, is when both the US and Europe are awake, that human interest/watercooler type content is by far the most popular content to share, with Images and Video being key, but it’s value depends on the social network.

Lexus: First Life-Sized, Real-Time Video Game

This is a very cool use of projection mapping from Lexus, Italy. To promote the new Lexus IS Hybrid, Lexus created “Trace Your Road,” an experiential life-sized video game event featuring Formula 1 driver, Jarno Trulli. “Trace Your Road” saw Trulli take on a series of improvised racetracks, each one designed by one of ten contest winners. The ten selected Facebook fans, chosen from hundreds of applicants on Lexus’ Facebook page, were given the chance to sit in the passenger seat next to Trulli and draw the course on an iPad that projected their designs onto the floor. The goal of the game was to hit 7 selected touch points in the quickest time, the person with the best score won.

The video called Danielle was made by filmmaker Anthony Cerniello. Cerniello worked with photographer Keith Sirchio to take pictures of his friend Danielle's family. Awesome! "Cerniello traveled to his friend Danielle’s family reunion and with still photographer Keith Sirchio shot portraits of her youngest cousins through to her oldest relatives with a Hasselblad medium format camera. Then began the process of scanning each photo with a drum scanner at the U.N. in New York, at which point he carefully edited the photos to select the family members that had the most similar bone structure. Next he brought on animators Nathan Meier and Edmund Earle who worked in After Effects and 3D Studio Max to morph and animate the still photos to make them lifelike as possible. Finally, Nuke (a kind of 3D visual effects software) artist George Cuddy was brought on to smooth out some small details like the eyes and hair."

Avicii breaks glass on Twitter

In an old nuclear reactor at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm stands a steel framed cube. Behind a black, opaque glass pane on the front of the cube hides the cover art of the brand new Avicii album, True. Inside and around the cube are massive speakers that pump out the bassline of Avicii's new track You Make Me. It is now your mission to raise the volume and smash the glass to reveal the cover art. All you have to do is to tweet a revealing fact about yourself, using the hashtag #TrueReveal. Your tweet will be projected onto the black glass pane as it pumps up the volume on the speakers, a small but significant bit. With the number of tweets new layers of the track will be unlocked and the volume will be raised, until the track You Make Me is played in whole and the glass pane shatters from the bass pressure. Will your tweet be the one to reveal the cover art of Avicii's new album? Try here: http://www.thetruereveal.com

Yamaha Silent Sessions with HJ Lim

Yamaha Silent Sessions with HJ Lim Most of us listen to our music on the daily commute through a pair of headphones plugged into our smartphone. But that won’t do for chart-topping classical pianist HJ Lim. The South Korean piano virtuoso does things in style with a sleek, ergonomic Yamaha piano. There’s no shuffle mode for her, instead she gets to listen to her own sublime skills by plugging a pair of headphones into this cutting edge, acoustic-digital hybrid. This is all possible through Yamaha’s market leading Silent Piano Technology to enable the piano to be played silently using headphones. When the silent function is activated, the hammers will no longer hit the strings and instead, a highly sophisticated sensor-technology captures all movements of the keys and sends them to the digital tone module. Honestly, I have no clue. Films are always hard for me and more often than not I'm left asking my friends what the hell is going on. Why Are We Afraid Of The Dark?

Having noticed that many people still sleep with a light on even as adults, the creators of the world's original Online Alarm Clock website thought it would be informative to research the subject of just how many people suffer from a fear of darkness. Achluophobia and Nyctophobia are two scientific terms used to describe phobias involving a fear of darkness or, respectively, a fear of the night. In its research, Online Clock sought to pinpoint just how many people actually suffer from such phobias. The next step in their research involved trying to determine if there are any justifiable reasons for such fears such as night threats from our early predators resulting in an instinctive fear of darkness being ingrained in human beings or whether current crime statistics show that we all in fact have a legitimate reason to be a little afraid of the dark. Finally, Onlineclock.net offers a ray of hope by suggesting ways that people suffering from such fears can get help.

About OnlineClock.net OnlineClock.net was the world's first website designed to be an Internet-based alarm clock and boasts a user base of around 4 million visits each month.

Google Maps: Explore the Grand Canyon

On their quest to map the earth Google Maps has gone off road with the release of these panoramic images of the Grand Canyon which allow people to virtually explore this natural wonder by viewing the site with full 360° views. Google’s ever expanding image collection aims to give people wider access to the world around them. With more than 9,500 panoramas of the Grand Canyon available to view on Google Maps covering more than 75 miles of trails and surrounding roads. So what’s new right? Well, not only can you choose your own map area, KLM will send you a high-quality print of the map, including all the social data, so you can get a little old school next time you travel. Slight shame it takes 3 weeks to be delivered, but then again, it’s free! Cool.

Royal London Hospital: Interactive Installation

Here’s a great example of technology put to good use at the Royal London Children’s Hospital, patients now have an interactive playground featuring a giant screen that the children can engage with. The surrounding soft toys are integrated into an interactive game, so that the children can play with both the physical and digital versions. Set in the style of a children’s book the interactive game, Woodland Wiggle, allows kids to paint pictures and play music with their body movements. The creators have designed the game to include the movements that would be the most therapeutic for the children. Artist and creator Chris O’Shea took into account the wide ranging patient-types to include healthy kids to those with special needs. It’s great to see that technology can be used in this way to enhance the therapeutic benefits of play.

Qualcomm Mobile: Best Bus Stop Ever

A pretty cool stunt from Qualcomm, the guys who’s chipsets power a tonne of the world’s best smartphones, to showcase how everyday life is just better with mobile. So they bought out the ad space on a bus stop, replaced it with a message pointing to a mobile site URL, and waited for people to hit the site and press the button… A few streets away lay a host of transportation vehicles, then this happened… and a few days laters 2m views… Kinda fun.

Ray Ban: Ambermatic Lens App Installation

Just about everyone is adding a custom filter to their apps and campaigns these days, so it’s cool to see RayBan’s take on it, and bringing it out of just the digital world and into the physical, to showcase their retro Ambermatic Lens which is making a comeback. Ray Ban, created an app that let you shoot photos, send them straight to their flagship store where a killer installation was setup, featuring a TV screen that would showcase your photo, and a camera that would shoot through an actual Ambermatic Lens, capture the image, and then post it back to you to share. And sure, while it might seem overkill for a process like this, it’s a pretty cool way to get people talking and interactive with the Ambermatic Lens. What do you guys think?

And thanks to Ariane Cornic (Masterfilms) and Philippe Pangrazzi who let us shoot during our working time. Compressorhead: An Entirely Robotic Metal Band

This is a video of the robotic band Compressorhead practicing in the garage of some human they likely killed. Unfortunately (or is it?), as somebody pointed out in the video's comments, you can really only hear the drums. You know why? Because robotic sound guys SUCK. Consider that a heads up for any of you bands out there trying to save a couple bucks by hiring a robot -- you want a HUMAN sound guy. The longer the ponytail the better.
